Schuler, Superintendent Room 115 Agricultural Engineering Building 262-0613 rschuler@wisc.edu The State FFA Agricultural Mechanics Career Development Event will be developed from the subject matter areas that are listed following each of the five systems associated with the agricultural mechanics industry. The specific theme for 2004 is Small Grain Production Systems. A. Industry and Marketing Systems This activity will involve the economics of small grain production. Safety conditions in and around field machinery and small grain storage and handling systems. Possible activities include evaluaiton of machine performance, cost of machine and equipment operation, selection of replacement and/or repair parts such as pulleys, sprockets, bearings, chains, belts and other machine parts. A calculator with a square root function will be needed and contestants should be familiar with calculations involving depreciation of processing equipment, interest charged on loans and break even analysis for decision making. B. Energy Systems The energy systems area will involve fuel and energy requirements of machinery and storage and handling equpment and electrical wiring activity which may include GFCI, electrical switches, relays, limit switches, lights and sensors.
